Ritabrata Banerjee faces “Thief, Thief” slogans and abuse during Baruipur victim family visit
The investigation into the murder of businessman Ketan Agarwal has intensified following the police discovery that the two main accused, Siya Goyal and her partner Chetan Chaudhary, had secretly married nearly four months before the incident. Investigators uncovered this development while examining deleted WhatsApp chats and digital evidence retrieved from the mobile phones of the accused. Preliminary findings indicate that the hidden marriage occurred around the time of Siya's formal engagement to Ketan Agarwal on February 19, though authorities are still establishing the exact timeline. Ketan was allegedly murdered on June 18 after being pushed from Lohagad Fort, leading to the subsequent arrests of Siya and Chetan.
Digital forensics tracking six to seven months of call records, location history, and internet searches has helped investigators piece together the alleged murder plot. Police reports indicate that an initial attempt on Ketan’s life was made on June 14, but it failed because Siya became frightened, leading the duo to coordinate the second attempt together. To execute the crime without leaving trace evidence, the accused reportedly studied various web series, crime podcasts, and online videos. They intentionally avoided using weapons to minimize suspicion and prevent leaving physical clues behind at the scene.
Additional evidence under official scrutiny includes a leaked online WhatsApp conversation between Siya and a friend. In the chat, Siya requested identification documents under the pretext of booking flight tickets for a wedding, cryptically adding that it was for a "wedding that was never going to happen." Furthermore, police noted that Siya consistently avoided spending time with Ketan before the incident, refusing to attend a birthday celebration in Mahabaleshwar and declining a pre-wedding photoshoot in Bali. All claims compiled by the investigators remain subject to verification as the ongoing case moves toward court examination.
